Is there a difference between in-person & online dietitian consultations?

If you are having trouble finding a dietitian near where you live you may be wondering about online consultations.

Telehealth consultations have been shown to be as effective as in-person consultations. The level of quality care you receive does not change.

This makes it a decision of availability, location, time, or personal preference.

Providing telehealth services allows people living in regional, rural, or remote areas the same access to quality healthcare services as people living in a city.

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

No, referrals are not required to see a dietician. Although, you may be eligible for a referral from your GP if you have a chronic health condition, an eating disorder, are a veteran, or are a First Nations Person. If you are an NDIS participant, funding can be used for nutrition support.

How many sessions with a dietitian will be necessary?

The number of appointments required depends on your specific reasons for seeking dietetic guidance, your health considerations, and your goals.

For individuals seeking clarification on their current dietary pattern, typically two sessions are recommended.

For individuals seeking to improve their gut health, it may be necessary to attend multiple sessions in order to identify triggers and alleviate symptoms effectively.

For those aiming to establish a healthier relationship with food, an extended period of collaboration often yields the most beneficial results.

Ultimately, my aim is to equip you with the knowledge, confidence, and skills required to manage your health autonomously.
